Success of Two Iranian Illustrators in the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB)

Two books: “You are an Explorer” illustrated by Ghazal Fathollahi, “Phoenix” illustrated by Mohammad Barangi could obtain Bratislava Biennial Plaque Illustration Award.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, in a formal announcement by Bratislava Biennial; on Oct 15, 2021, the Grand Prix of the festival was given to Elena Odriozola from Spain.

Based on this, illustrators from Mexico, France, Korea, Russia, and China received Golden Apple. In addition, some illustrators from Japan, South Africa, Mexico, and two illustrators from Iran received Bratislava Biennial Plaque.

By announcing a call on every round of this contest, Kanoon, as Iran delegate, announces a call to collect the illustrators’ selected works. These works are reviewed in a meeting with publishers, illustrators, and experts in the field.

In this round of the contest, 18 works (110 images) by 15 illustrators were sent to the festival. “You are an Explorer” written by Shahrzad Shahrjerdi and illustrated by Ghazal Fatollahi published by Fatemi Publications and “Phoenix” written by Marjan Fouladvand and illustrated by Mohammad Barangi taken from Mantegh-Al-Tair Attar Neishabouri published by Madreseh Ppublications could obtain the plaque of this art event for Iran.

Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB) is held in Republic of Slovak to expose illustrators’ works for children books.

In line with the goals of UNESCO, the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People), national commissions, as well as fine arts organizations, the exhibition provides illustrators with the opportunity to evaluate works and thus develop the art.

It must be mentioned that due to the pandemic, the international jury meeting for the contest and presenting articles at Bratislava Symposium was held virtually and Albin Brunovsky image making workshop was cancelled.
