“Hamid Reza Shahabadi’ and “Reza Dalvand” are Nominees for Astrid Lindgren Award, 2023

Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (Kanoon), as one of the Iranian Selection Committees for Astrid Lindgren Award, introduced “Hamid Reza Shahabadi” for the field of writing, and “Reza Dalvand” for the field of illustration to receive Astrid Lindgren Award, 2023.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, the award (worth 5 million Swedish kronor) is the largest global award for children and adolescent literature; also, the second largest literary award after the Oscars.

Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) was launched in 2002 by the Swedish government to give children of the world access to good stories. This award is given annually to an individual or an organization for special participation in the field of children and adolescent literature.

Astrid Lindgren, well-known Swedish author, who has written books like “Pipi Long Stocking” and “Karlsson on the Roof”.

She passed away at the age 94 in 2002. To commemorate her, government of Sweden established a world competition after her name held every year in this country.

According to the organizers of this award, this year 250 selection committees from 97 countries are introduced to this competition to introduce their nominees.

Kanoon, Children Book Council, The Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature, and Iran Association of Authors are the four committees to introduce nominees from Iran for the 2023 award.

Last year’s winner of this award was Eva Lindstrom, the Swedish author and illustrator for children and adolescents. The theme of her books is the everyday life uttered through smart humor.
