Jamalodin Akrami and Reza Dalvand are Kanoon Candidates for Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Jamalodin Akrami in the field of writing and Reza Dalvand in the area of illustration are introduced as candidates to receive Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2024.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, based on official announcement by Astrid Lindgren International Competition, Kanoon’s nominees in the domains of writing and illustration are approved by this organization and their names are listed among 245 nominees from 66 countries.

Based on this, Kanoon has introduced Jamalodin Akrami in the domain of writing and Reza Dalvand in the domain of illustrating for Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, 2024.

Astrid Lindgren is an international award established by the government of Sweden in 2002 with the intention of providing the children of the world with good stories. This annual award is given to an author or an organization having special contribution in the field of children and adolescents’ literature.

This prize (with the amount of 5 million Swedish krone) is the largest international prize for children and youth literature and the second largest literary prize after the Oscar.

Astrid Lindgren is the well-known Swedish author who has written books such as “Pipi Longstocking” and “Karlson on the Roof”.

She passed away at the age of 94 in 2002. To commemorate her, government of Sweden set up a world competition named after her held in this country every year.

Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, Children’s Book Council, The Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature and Iran’s Authors Association are the jury to introduce nominees from Iran for 2024.

Last year’s winner was Laurie Hals Anderson, the author of “The Young Hub” from America. The peak of her works is “Speak”, a book written in 1999 translated to a number of languages. A movie is made based on this book.

It brings the voice of teenagers to the audience with deep honesty. Belonging and love are the themes seen mostly in her works.

The winner or winners of this round of the competition are supposed to be announced simultaneously with the result of ‌Bologna Children's Book Fair on April 9th 2024.
