Kanoon book listed as suitable for children with special needs

“What Was the Most Horrible Job You Ever Did?”, a Kanoon book, was introduced to International Board on Books for Young People (IBbY) by Children Book Council

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, the group of awards for children’s books with special needs has introduced eight books to be introduced to International Board on Books for Young People (IBbY).

Based on this, “What Was the Most Horrible Job You Ever Did?” published by Kanoon is nominated to receive an award. The book is about the handicapped. As a national branch, Children Book Council in Iran has introduced this book to International Board on Books for Young People (IBbY).

“What Was the Most Horrible Job You Ever Did?” is for the age category above 9 written by Solmaz Khajehvand and illustrated by Marjan Vafaiyan. 

The book is about a blind boy who has done Corneal transplant operation to gain eyesight. He scares the operation results. The story with a believable character, away from stereotypes and by evoking the sense of acceptance of disability, deals with the issue of fear of seeing and eyesight.

 The International Board on Books for Young People (IBbY) published a list of books suitable for children with special needs to provide them with a chance of reading such books, to persuade publishers and promote the production of such products. 

The final judgement is done in Toronto, Canada. The titles of the selected books are published in the biennial book list with the title of “Books for Children with Special Needs” which will be exhibited in Bologna Children’s Book Fair, 2025. 

 In 2023 book list, “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O” by Shell Silverstien and translated by Sima Majidzadeh published by Gol Aftab Publications can be seen. 

In 2015, “Are you a Stork or a Woodpecker?” by Ali Khodaei was selected to be on the list for being unique and having effective ideas and illustrations.

This project was first started in 1981 to persuade the publication of suitable books for physically and mentally handicapped children.
