“In the Shadow of the Cypress” was Introduced to the Oscar for the Fourth Time!

By receiving Spark Award from “Best in Show” at 16th Spark Animation Festival in Canada, “In the Shadow of the Cypress”, an animation jointly directed by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Molayemi, was introduced to the Oscar for the fourth time.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, “In the Shadow of the Cypress” produced by Kanoon, has won 18 awards from various national and international festivals so far.
Spark International Animation Festival is one of the prestigious festivals that attempts to introduce the top talents of directing animation to the world every year.
This Canadian festival which is an Oscar approved festival introduces the winner to the Oscar “Best in Show”.

“In the Shadow of the Cypress” was Introduced to the Oscar for the Fourth Time!


The prizes of this round of Spark International Animation Festival in various sections goes to the best animations selected.
The best short film in “Best in Show” are the best student film, the best music video, the best commercial animation, the best animation acting, the best short animation and the special prize of the jury, VFX Diversity Award, is an award approved by the Oscar.
Introducing short films and animations to the Oscar by some prestigious world festivals is one of prerequisites to select films for the main section of the Oscar. This type of introduction increases the chance of that film to be one of the five main films while some of the heads of these festivals are the members of Oscar Film Academy Selection Committee .
