 “The Long-Necked Deer” by Jamshid Sepahi Published in English

“The Long-Necked Deer”, a Kanoon earlier book, published in English.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, Kanoon published the English version of “The Long-Necked Deer” written by Jamshid Sepahi, illustrated by Youta Azargin and translated by Shaghayegh Ghandehari.

The story is about a baby deer which because of being different form the others for having a long neck, is not accepted in the group.  The baby deer is forced to live in a lonely corner somewhere in the field.  After a while that there was no rain and all the grasses and rivers were dried, a black cloud covered the field, but there was no sign of rain. All the deers called the black cloud loudly; asking it to rain, but the black cloud was faraway and didn't hear them. So they remembered the long-necked deer and

 “The Long-Necked Deer” was first published in 1974 in Farsi. It has been published several times. The Braille version, too, is published for the visually impaired children.

The book has won the “Silver Pencil” for the best illustration in 1976.

An animation carrying the same title directed by Seid Hassan Soltani is produced at Kanoon in 2011. It was screened in National Section at the 8th round of Tehran International Animation Festival. It could win the silver statuette, appreciation tablet, honorary diploma, and the cash of 42nd Roshd International Science, Education, and Ethical Film Festival.

During the Cultural week of Islamic Republic of Iran in 2012, the animation was screened for Turkish children in Ankara.  

This book has also won the silver medal in Leipzig Book Fair.

 “The Long-Necked Deer” is suitable for children above 10.
