IBBY Tablet of Honor was presented to “Shadow of the Monster” written by Abbas Jahangirian

IBBY Tablet of Honor was given to “Shadow of the Monster” written by Abbas Jahangirian concurrently with the second day of International Board on Books for Young People in Russia. IBBY Tablet of Honor for the selected books in 2020 was given to “Shadow of the Monster written by Abbas Jahangirian published by Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults Publication.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, on the second day of  IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People), hosted by Russia and being held right now, tablets of honor were given to authors and illustrators from various countries for the selected books of 2020. “Shadow of the Monster”, published by Kanoon, was the one that received tablet of honor. 

In this round, “Shadow of the Monster” written by Abbas Jahangirian was introduced by the Children's Book Council to the honorary list of the works of the Intrnational Office for the IBBY 2020 Young Book Generation. 

This novel focuses on the need to protect endangered animals. It was published in 2016 by Kanoon. This work has been created in the form of "Today's Adolescent Novel" project and tells the story of a girl named Maral who goes to Golestan National Park with her brother. Meanwhile, a filmmaker named Afra gets to know them and asks Maral to act in a film. Maral, who is identified at the beginning of the story as a friend of the forest leopard for many years, accepts the offer, and from here the story of two lives together is narrated, which is Maral's friendship with a leopard and Laleh's friendship with a tiger 50 years ago. 

“Shadow of the Monster” was previously nominated for the book of the year by the Islamic Republic of Iran. It has received the award for the 18th round of Kanoon Children and Adolescents Book and the silver badge for book of the year at Fifth round of the Flying Turtle.  

In this round, in addition to Abbas Jahangirian for the writing section, the committee of the awards by Iran Children's Book Council has introduced “All of them have Seen a Cat” translated by Keyvan Abidi Ashtiani for the translation section, and “An Umbrella with White Butterflies” with illustrations by Ghazaleh Beigdalou for the illustration section to be on the honorary list of the international office of books for the young generation, 2020.  

The IBBY honorary list of the international office of the book for the young generation is a list of outstanding, selected and newly published every two years to felicitate authors, illustrators, and translators of the member countries. 

The 37th International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) was previously scheduled for September 5-7, 2020, but due to the corona outbreak, a year later, it was held from September 10 to 12, 2021 in the main hall of the Russian State Children's Library in Moscow.
