“In the Shadow of the Cypress” Introduced to the Oscar for the Third Time!

After participating at the competition section of short animation at LA Shorts International Film Festival and receiving the best award at this section, “In the Shadow of the Cypress” made way to the Oscar for the third time.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, by introducing the best short film, the best short foreign film, the best short animation, and the best short documentary, the 28th La Shorts International Film Festival introduced its best directly to the Oscar.

“In the Shadow of the Cypress”, an animation jointly made by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Molayemi produced by Kanoon, has won many international and national awards so far.

 There are three sections of “Short, Semi-feature and Student film” in LA Shorts International Film Festival that accepts films every year. Student film section is for the films by students and even those made at schools and colleges.

Fictions, documentaries, animations and experimental films (all styles) can participate at these four sections. At the end, the best film of the festival, the best foreign film, the best drama, the best experimental, the best student film, the best actor and the best group of actors will receive awards. 

The winners of the best short film and the best animation by the Oscar were the ones selected at LA Short International Film Festival in 2016. 

The 28th LA Shorts International Film Festival was held in Los Angeles US from July 17 to 28, 2024.
