“In the Shadow of the Cypress” and seven classic Kanoon animations reached Melbourne Film Festival

“In the Shadow of the Cypress” and seven previous Kanoon animations are going to be displayed in the 72nd Melbourne International Film Festival.

 According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, the successful animation, “In the Shadow of the Cypress” jointly made by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Molayemi, is attending the competition section of short animations of Melbourne International Film Festival. 

The precious collection of seven classic Kanoon short animations with various styles and themes made by the early Kanoon animators is going to be screened with the title of “The Golden Era of Iranian Animation from 1965 to 1977” on the screen of the 72nd Melbourne International Film Festival. 

 Seven Kanoon works including: “The Gray City” directed by Farshid Mesghali and "The Bird of Doom" directed by Morteza Momayez, “Atal Matal” and “The Mad Mad Wrold” by Nourreddin ZarrinKelk, “The Rook”, “Boasting”, and “Malek Khurshid” by Ali Akbar Sadeghi are going to be shown on August 24, 2024. 

 These prestigious and rich Kanoon productions reveal various aesthetic orientations from early years of producing animations in Iran. Some of the works are inspired by Ali Akbar Sadeghi’s miniatures and some others display a more modern approach; the way it can be seen in Farshid Mesghali’s experimental figurative works. 

 Melbourne Film Festival is one of the oldest and most important film festival in Australia and the world that accepts films at the following sections: 

short fiction films, documentary, experimental, animation, feature films, and presents them awards and statuettes. At the end, the best short film and documentary will be introduced to the Academy of Oscar. 

The 72nd Melbourne International Film Festival is held from 8 to 25 August 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.
