Introducing “In the Arms of the Tree” as Iran’s Representative to the Oscar

The movie "In the Arms of the Tree" directed by Babak Khajepasha was introduced as the representative of Iranian cinema in Oscar 2025.

 According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, Farabi Cinema Foundation announced that the joint product of Soureh Cinema Organization and Kanoon is introduced to the Academy of Oscar as Iran’s delegate for 2025.

 Based on this, after 10 days of reviewing and rewatching the eligible films, out of the three final candidates, “In the Arms of the Tree” has been chosen by the majority of the members of the jury to introduce Iran’s movie to participate in the 97th Oscar Academy, 2025. 

The members of jury were Narges Abyar, Shabnam Moghadami, Fereydoun Jeyrani, Ali Dehkordi, Morteza Razzagh Karimi, Mehdi Sajadehchi, Akbar Nabavi, Behrouz Shoeibi and Majid Zeinolabedin.

“In the Arms of the Tree” is directed by Babak Khajeh Pasha. Mohammad Reza Mesbah and Sajad Nasrollahi are the producers. It is a joint product of Kanoo and Soureh Film Organization. 

In the 41st Fajr Film Festival, this film was selected as the popular movie of critique and media people. It was nominated for seven Simorgh. It won the Crystal Simorgh for best screenplay and the honorary diploma for the best director. 

 In the summary of the story we read, “The complicated crisis of Kimia and Farid who got married twelve years ago, the beautiful world of their children gets upside down. Children who know nothing but simplicity and kindness. 

“In the Arms of the Tree” by displaying frames out of the atmosphere of Tehran is produced in Urmieh. By creating a poetic story, it depicts the last endeavors of a family on the verge of collapse. 

This film was screened on August 7, 2024 all over Iran. 

After “Children of Heaven”, “In the Arms of the Tree” is the second Kanoon film which made way to the Oscar. Majid Majidi’d movie was the first Iranian film selected as the final Oscar nominee for the best foreign-language movie in 1998.
