“Bashu, the Little Stranger” Won the Golden Lion for the Best Film of Venice Classics!

“Bashu, the Little Stranger” directed by Bahram Beyzai produced by Kanoon managed to win the Golden Lion for the best classic film restored from the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, “Bashu, the Little Stranger” could win the Golden Lion for the best “Classic Film Restored” from the section of “Venice Classics” at Venice International Film Festival, 2025.
“Venice Classics” is a competing section of Venice Festival founded in 2012 on the initiative of Alberto Barbera and in collaboration with Federico Gironi. Its goal is better understanding of the history of world cinema and young audience benefiting from cinema's iconic works.
Kamran Saharkhiz, the manager of the group for restoring and fixing of films said, “Restoring the outstanding films of Iran’s cinema has always been important to me since it is a new chance for watching these films again.”

“Bashu, the Little Stranger” Won the Lion for the Best Film of Venice Classics!


He added, “Beyzai’s films are abundant in details and restoring then, and their digital copy displays the world of the film in a clearer way.
Kevin Thomas, a critique working at Los Angeles Times in a note about “Bashu, the Little Stranger” describes the film as poetic which brings smile to your lips by careful image-making while it brings tears to your eyes.”
He has written that “Beyzai’s world in this movie is whispering peace and equality. It fades away borders and colors against humanism.”
The 82nd International Film Festival of Venice was held from August 27 to 5 September 2025 in the coastal city of Venice, Italy.
