The First Award and the Golden Pen: Iran’s Achievement from Belgrade Biennial Illustration

Two Iranian artists, Noushin Sadeghian and Samaneh Salavati, could win the first award and the golden pen respectively from 50th Belgrade Biennial Illustration Contest.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Affairs, the ceremony was held on Nov 7, 2019 in Prince JoBeik, a historical monument in Belgrade, capital of Serbia.

In this contest, some unpublished pieces of writing by Noushin Sadeghian tilted “The Apple Tree and the Ogre” from the collection “Malek Ebrahim Tales” won the first award and then three golden pens were given to Serbian illustrator. Samaneh Salavati received it for “This Book May Explode” written by Reza Mozouni from Iran and an artist from Croatia. 

The golden plaque of the contest was given to some illustrators from Czech Republic and Serbia. Honorary diploma was given to four illustrators from Spain and one from Serbia.

Three works by Kanoon were accepted in the first stage of selection: “This Book May Explode” illustrated by Samaneh Salavati, “Paint a Human Being” illustrated by Mitra Abdullahi, and "The String Puppet" illustrated by Mahboubeh Yazdani.

Also in the 50th Biennial of the Belgrade Golden Pen Illustration, names of 17 Iranian artists are among the 140 illustrators in the 50th Belgrade Golden Pencil Catalog.

Serbia Association of Designers hold this contest every two years. All types of illustration can participate in the contest such as illustrations for books, magazines, newspapers, animations and other types of electronic media.
