Kanoon Won Two Grand Prizes of Hiroshima Animation Festival

Short Animation “Crab” directed by Shiva Sadegh Asadi, Kanoon Second Animation that had Reached the Competition Section of the 18th Hiroshima International Animation Festival Could Win an Prize from this Prestigious Art Event.

According to Kanoon General Directorate for Public Relations and International Relations, festival secretariat had already reported about the success of “Am I a Wolf?” by Amir Houshang Moein but later, the festival secretariat sent Kanoon an email and announced that “Crab”, too, has won the jury’s special prize.

This year, 59 films had been accepted in the official competition section of this biennial festival from all over the world out of which “Crab” by Shiva Sadegh Asadi won “Jury’s Special Prize”. Another Kanoon animation “Am I a Wolf?” directed by Amir Houshang Moein won “Hiroshima Prize 2020” along with the statuette and a cash prize of one million Yen.

 “Crab” is a ten-minute fifty-second animation. It is the story of a shy and isolated boy who is interested in becoming a member of the school theater group. However, the only role offered to him is the role of a crab.

In the text of appreciation for the animation, the jury has written: “Crab is a cruel and terrifying story that reveals the animal temperament of man. With rotoscopic designs and dramatic sounds, the director puts a mirror in front of us.

The prizes of this animation festival include the Grand Prize, the Hiroshima Prize, Debut prize, the Renzo Kinoshita Prize with a cash prize of one million yen, as well as two non-cash prizes, including the Special Prize and the Special Jury Prize, which were awarded to the winners.

Hiroshima Biennial Animation Festival is one of the most important festivals in the world and approved by the Academy Award for short films. This year it was held without the presence of audience from August 20 t0 24, 2020 in Hiroshima, Japan.
